Logbook notes

Three nations, one treaty.

This trip produced the legendary Maastrand Treaty, ensuring that travel costs — from flights to fuel — would be shared equally between all crew, no matter the ocean crossed, a symbolic structure reflecting the balance, equity and respect.

In Sweden, we goose-winged under perfect skies, the boat racing downwind like a bullet. Sailing north into the midsummer night, the sun dipped briefly before rising again — a magical eternal dusk. A vastly long trip, covering huge areas of Baltic water, extended days yet never too much.

Booze prices in Norway were extortionate, prompting an emergency retreat back to Sweden and the safety of civilised beer.

Chris was relieved of purser duties soon after — replaced by Boris, whose legendary daily paper spreadsheets would balance the books (and currencies) ever after. His accounting baptism on this trip juggling seven currencies!

After missing a year, Simon returned the Phat Buoy story of the voyage to book format with “A Midsummer Night’s Team”
