The Crew

For almost twenty-five years, the Phat Buoys have been bound by wind, laughter, and the quiet understanding that every voyage is only as good as its crew.

⚓️ Mark ‘MD’ Daniel — Skipper

Founder, calm hand, and helmsman of the earliest voyages. Known for his stoic skippering, thoughtful judgement, and a cheeky chuckle that carries over the wind.

⚓️ Mike “Scriv” Scrivens — Co-Skipper

Brilliant racing pedigree sailor and natural, engaging leader, “Close Hauled” or simply “Scriv” has shared skippering duties in recent years. Trusted navigator, talented at everything, calm in chaos, and dependable in any weather.

⚓️ Simon “DC” Tyler — Dinghy Commodore

Navigator, chronicler, and brand creator of the Phat Buoys. Author of the trip books and designer of the Phat Buoy identity. Always charting new courses — both on and off the water.

⚓️ Warren “Warboy” Creates

The soul of the crew. Galley maestro, irrepressible energy source, and master of morale. Often found in orange, occasionally in flames of culinary genius. Creator of the Trinity Prop Trophy.

⚓️ Boris “Borizontal” Ulehla

The purser extraordinaire. Spreadsheet wizard, steady presence, endlessly assisting and bringer of calm logic. Loves neat numbers, order and balanced accounts, and helping everyone at once.

⚓️ Chris “AC” Robson

The diplomat. Deeply knowledgeable, dependable and calm first mate, and holder of the frequently sacked Alcohol Controller title — unofficially ensuring both safety and supply.

⚓️ Andrew “BigWag” Wagstaff

Adventurer and bold spirit — brave ice-water diver in Newfoundland and skipper in Greece. His fearlessness, courage and candour helped shape many early voyages.

⚓️ David “Dasher” Ashfield

Quiet, consistent, astute, wise and stoic. Sadly departed, missed but remembered and honoured through the Ashfield Cup — a legacy of grace, humour, and true seamanship.

⚓️ Mark “Wellsvigator” Wells

Bloody-minded, inventive, endlessly committed. Renowned for navigation efforts, clean trousers, and once being dunked into less-than-fragrant waters to check hull damage.

🧭 Crew names, nicknames, and honours are etched into history and onto the Trinity Prop Trophy — and into each other’s hearts, over 24 voyages and more than 5,000 nautical miles.
